Although I'm in the area frequently, I hadn't stopped at the plaza adjacent to Tom Thumb on Trophy Lake Dr in a couple years - I had no idea what I was missing! Since 2020, Dan's Bagels has been cranking out made-fresh-daily sourdough bagels that you have to try! Owners Dan and Jennifer are so gracious and welcoming, and it carries over to their staff. I got to see, first-hand some of the process that is producing up to 1,000 bagels daily - which, the day I visited, sold out just after 10 AM! That’s because Dan’s offers not only delicious bagels, but delicious bagel sandwiches as well!
Whether you like flavored cream cheese on your bagel, egg, lox, or deli meats and cheeses, you’ll find several options to choose from. And the choice of bagel flavors run the gambit, including: plain, everything, asiago, jalapeno cheddar, onion, and cinnamon sugar, as well as rotating specials like chocolate chip – which I had the opportunity to see being made.
Dan’s Bagels all start with their sourdough recipe that, when ready, is flavored, rolled, sliced and baked. It’s a multi-day process to produce these bagels, which is why you can’t wait, hoping they’ll last until their 1 PM closing time.
There are so many combinations to be created that you’ll have to go multiple times to try everything you want to try! Also, if you’re a lover of bagels, but need to avoid gluten, Dan’s offers several flavors of Original Sunshine brand wheat-based, gluten-free bagels! If you have a wheat allergy, these aren’t for you, but if you have celiac or a gluten-sensitivity, you can enjoy these bagels with any menu item.
So, now that you know, set your alarm, and get to Dan’s Bagels tomorrow morning! Unless it’s Sunday – Dan’s is closed on Mondays.
